  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • 2½ cups lukewarm water
  • Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine masarepa flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add butter and shredded mozzarella cheese; mix until incorporated.
  3. Gradually pour in milk and lukewarm water while mixing until smooth.
  4. Knead the dough lightly; let it rest for 5 minutes.
  5. Divide into six equal portions; shape each into a disc about ½ inch thick.
  6. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat; cook arepas for about 5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.
