Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak (thinly sliced)
  • 1 lb fresh broccoli (cut into florets)
  • 6 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 3 Tbsp light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp corn starch
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp garlic (grated)
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger (grated)
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Start by cooking white rice according to package instructions.
  2. Freeze flank steak for 30 minutes to make slicing easier; then slice thinly against the grain.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, corn starch, black pepper, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and hot water; mix well.
  4. Heat 1 Tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add broccoli and sauté for about 5 minutes until bright green. Remove from pan.
  5. Increase heat to high; add remaining oil and sliced beef in a single layer. Cook for about 2 minutes per side until browned.
  6. Pour the prepared sauce over the beef, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 3–4 minutes until thickened. Stir in broccoli and serve hot over rice.
