Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Enough vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • Your favorite taco seasoning packet
  • Toppings: sour cream, shredded lettuce, diced tomato, shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Make a well in the center and add milk and vegetable oil. Mix until dough forms; knead for 2-4 minutes until smooth. Cover and rest for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan to 350°F.
  3. Divide dough into 8 pieces; roll each into a ball and flatten into disks about 6 inches wide. Poke holes in each disk with a fork.
  4. Fry each disk for about 15 seconds until slightly puffed; reshape into taco form while frying an additional 30 seconds. Cook until golden brown (1-2 minutes). Drain on a wire rack and season with salt.
  5. Cook ground beef according to taco seasoning instructions; fill each chalupa shell with meat and top with sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese.
