  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly spray an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together half the sugar and cocoa powder; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, remaining cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, mix milk, melted butter, egg yolk, and vanilla until smooth; then combine with dry ingredients.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips and spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Sprinkle the cocoa mixture on top.
  6. Carefully pour boiling water over the batter without stirring.
  7. Bake for 22-24 minutes until the top is cracked and bubbling.
  8. Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving warm with ice cream.
