  • 1 cup chickpea flour
  • 1 Tbsp nutritional yeast (optional)
  • 3/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp lime juice (or lemon juice)
  • 1 green hot chili pepper (finely chopped)
  • 1 Tbsp parsley (chopped or cilantro)
  • 3 Tbsp oil (for frying; coconut recommended)

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions thinly using a sharp knife or mandoline.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, nutritional yeast (if using), cumin, salt, turmeric, water, lime juice, chili pepper, and parsley. Whisk until smooth.
  3. Fold in the sliced onions until well-coated with the batter.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the onion mixture into the hot oil and fry for about 2–4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels before serving.
