Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel-based for vibrant color)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup red velvet cake crumbs (from the cupcake centers)
  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 12 tbsp red food coloring (for a vibrant, glossy red hue)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 34 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 23 tbsp milk or heavy cream
  • A few drops of ivory or peach food coloring (adjust for a pale, skin-tone effect)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Candy fangs or small dots of red gelatin (for puncture marks)
  • Red syrup or edible red gel (for 'blood' drips)
  • Straws (watch out – they are not eatable)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract and red food coloring.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk until combined.
  4. Stir in baking soda mixed with vinegar. Fill muffin cups two-thirds full and bake for 18–20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  5. Prepare the red velvet filling by mixing cake crumbs with sweetened condensed milk and melted butter, then add red food coloring.
  6. Hollow out the cooled cupcakes and fill them with the creamy mixture.
  7. For frosting, beat softened butter and gradually mix in powdered sugar until smooth, adding milk for desired consistency and food coloring for skin tone.
  8. Frost each cupcake smoothly and decorate with candy fangs or red syrup for bite marks.
